Percentile Calculator
Find any percentile from a data set, compare nearest-rank and linear interpolation methods, and calculate the percentile rank of a specific value.
Explore percentiles in your data
Separate numbers with commas, spaces, semicolons or new lines. For decimal commas, use one value per line or semicolons. Up to 500 values.
Selected percentile
Exclusive interpolation is undefined for this percentile and data count; it is not clamped to the minimum or maximum.
The comparison value lies outside the observed data range.
Compare all three methods
Different definitions may give different values. A result is not available when an exclusive percentile falls outside its valid ranks.
Where the percentile falls
Dots show individual values; larger data sets use a histogram. Lines mark the selected percentile and the optional comparison value.
Common percentile thresholds
Compare P10, Q1, median, Q3, P90 and P95 using each method.

Why quartile results can differ
The mean–median–mode calculator uses the medians of the lower and upper halves. That is a different rule from inclusive interpolation or nearest rank. Always name the method when comparing Q1 and Q3.
How the results were calculated
Sorted values
All values are shown here; calculations use the full data set.
Values equal to the target count as half when calculating its percentile rank.
Percentile formulas
Nearest rank uses rank = ceil(p / 100 x n). Inclusive linear interpolation uses a fractional position between the first and last data points.
Always sort the data before finding a percentile. The calculator does this automatically.
Common percentiles
- 25th percentile: first quartile, or Q1.
- 50th percentile: median.
- 75th percentile: third quartile, or Q3.
- 90th or 95th percentile: often used for performance and risk thresholds.
Percentile Calculator FAQ
What is a percentile?
A percentile describes the value below which a given percentage of data falls.
What is the 50th percentile?
The 50th percentile is the median, the middle point of an ordered data set.
Why do methods give slightly different answers?
Percentile methods differ in how they treat ranks between two data points. Spreadsheets and statistics packages may use different defaults.
What is percentile rank?
Percentile rank estimates what percentage of the data is below a specific value, with ties counted halfway.
