Converted volume
The same volume in every system
All equivalent values
—The converter calculates through liters using defined conversion factors. Display rounding does not change the underlying result. Product capacities and real containers may differ from nominal values.
Useful real-world volume references
Choose a familiar amount to load it into the converter. Capacities are representative and can vary by product or location.
Live liquid profile
The fill level uses a logarithmic scale so very small and very large volumes can both be visualized.
Equivalent cube
If the volume formed a perfect cube, this would be the approximate length of each edge.
US and imperial units are not interchangeable
A US liquid gallon equals 3.785411784 liters, while an imperial gallon equals 4.54609 liters. US and imperial pints and fluid ounces also differ, so select the system printed on the source.
Cooking measures need context
A metric teaspoon is 5 mL and a metric tablespoon is 15 mL. A US customary cup is about 236.588 mL, while the US legal cup used on nutrition labels is exactly 240 mL.
Cubic units and liters
One cubic centimeter equals one milliliter, one cubic decimeter equals one liter, and one cubic meter equals 1,000 liters. Cubic units describe three-dimensional space.
Precision and rounding
The converter calculates through liters using defined conversion factors. Display rounding does not change the underlying result. Product capacities and real containers may differ from nominal values.
How volume conversion works
Each unit is stored as an exact or standardized number of liters. The source value is converted to liters and then divided by the target unit factor.
Important conversion constants
- 1 m³ = 1,000 L
- 1 cm³ = 1 mL
- 1 US gal = 3.785411784 L
- 1 imp gal = 4.54609 L
- 1 ft³ = 28.316846592 L
- 1 US cup = 236.5882365 mL

Volume converter FAQ
How many liters are in a US gallon?
One US liquid gallon equals exactly 3.785411784 liters.
How many liters are in an imperial gallon?
One imperial gallon equals exactly 4.54609 liters, so it is larger than a US gallon.
Is 1 cubic centimeter the same as 1 milliliter?
Yes. One cubic centimeter (cm³) and one milliliter (mL) represent the same volume.
How many liters are in one cubic meter?
One cubic meter contains exactly 1,000 liters.
Which cup should I use for a recipe?
Use the system specified by the recipe. US customary, US legal and metric cups are not always the same size.
How is tank capacity calculated?
A rectangular tank uses length × width × height. A cylindrical tank uses π × radius² × height. Always use internal dimensions.
Does one liter of every liquid weigh one kilogram?
No. That approximation is useful for water near ordinary conditions. Other liquids have different densities.
