How area conversion works
Area measures a two-dimensional surface. A linear conversion factor must be applied twice: one time for length and one time for width. That is why one square metre equals about 10.7639 square feet, not 3.28084 square feet.

Land units: hectares and acres
Hectares are common in metric land measurement, while acres remain widely used in the United States and the United Kingdom. One hectare is 10,000 square metres; one acre is about 4,046.856 square metres.

How do I convert square feet to square metres?
Multiply square feet by 0.09290304. For example, 100 square feet is about 9.2903 square metres.
How many square feet are in one square metre?
One square metre equals approximately 10.7639 square feet.
How many square metres are in a hectare?
One hectare contains exactly 10,000 square metres, or 100 ares.
What is the difference between an acre and a hectare?
An acre is about 4,046.856 square metres, while a hectare is exactly 10,000 square metres. One hectare is about 2.47105 acres.
Why are area conversion factors squared?
Area has two dimensions. When metres become feet, both length and width are multiplied by the linear conversion factor, so the total factor is squared.
How much extra material should I add?
It depends on the project. Simple layouts may need a small allowance, while diagonal patterns, irregular rooms or fragile materials can require more. Check the supplier’s recommendation.
Does the package estimate round up?
Yes. You cannot normally buy a fraction of a package, so the planner rounds package quantity up to the next whole number.
Can I use commas as decimal separators?
Yes. The calculator accepts either a comma or a period as the decimal separator.
