How do I convert a fraction to a decimal?
Divide the numerator by the denominator. For a mixed number, multiply the whole part by the denominator, add the numerator, then divide.
3/4 = 0.75 = 75%
Why does the decimal repeat?
A repeated remainder makes the same digits recur. The repeating digits are marked with an overline; very long periods are shortened on screen.
1/3 = 0.(3); 1/7 = 0.(142857)
Mixed number
A mixed number combines a whole part and a fraction. For example, 2 1/4 equals 9/4 and 2.25.
