How the exact age calculation works

The calculator counts completed calendar years first, then complete calendar months, then the remaining days. It does not divide the total number of days by 365.

Exact age = completed years + completed months + remaining days

Why calendar age differs from a decimal age

Months contain different numbers of days and leap years contain an extra day. A decimal such as 25.5 years is therefore not the same as 25 years and 6 calendar months in every case.

How is exact age calculated?

Completed years are counted first, followed by complete months and remaining calendar days up to the selected comparison date.

Does the calculator handle leap years?

Yes. Real month lengths and leap years are used. For a February 29 birth date, February 28 is used as the anniversary in non-leap years.

Can I calculate age on a past or future date?

Yes. Choose any comparison date that is not earlier than the birth date.

Why can age in days differ from years multiplied by 365?

Calendar years can have 365 or 366 days, so total days are calculated directly between the two dates.

Are hours and minutes exact?

They are date-based estimates calculated from complete calendar days. A birth time and time zone would be required for exact elapsed hours or minutes.
